The Ambassador of Ireland laid a wreath to commemorate the deaths of Irish soldiers. At the Cenotaph, it was moving to see the many representatives of Commonwealth nations, whose soldiers died alongside British soldiers. This was a very striking tribute to the many men who died, each one an individual. It stands in gardens, entered by a gateway which is embellished with the plaques shown.Įach of these beauties had been individually made: most knitted, some crocheted, all different.

Although this takes place every year, this is the 100th anniversary of the ending of the First World War, which made the occasion event more significant. Yesterday (Sunday 11th November), we took time to sit down together at 11 o’clock to watch the televised ceremony at the Cenotaph in London. I have just arrived home from a lovely weekend away with quilting friends.
